06 December 2011

A festival of Italian gastronomy and wine took place on November 17-19 in Moscow within the framework of international wine exhibition "Drinks Industry / Russian Wine Fair 2011". Products entirely new for the Russian consumer were presented at a specially designated area. Presentation of wines and delicacies from Italian companies, carefully selected and brought to Moscow by Wine & Food Made in Italy company, was organized in the form of gastronomic sets and wine tastings, which attracted a large number of professional visitors and lovers of Italian food and wine.

In addition to wines from famous wine regions of Italy - Veneto, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia and Marche, the public got acquainted with meat delicacies of EAT Friuli company, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP from the company Fattoria del Massiko, pasta and natural sauces from the company Sonda Srl, chestnuts from di Montella.

On the first day of the exhibition Dmitry Fedotov, director of the Independent Wine Club, acquainted the participants with the sparkling wines. Apart from the familiar to the Russian consumer Prosecco, he presented "Spumante" from unexpected grapes: Ribolla Jalla, Verdutstso Friulyano and Raboso. The second tasting set began with a small premiere - the famous farm of Lazio Casale del Giglio presented Novello - new wine. It was followed by two Cabernet Franc from Veneto from Antonio Rigoni and from Friuli from Michele Grudina and two biological wines Marina Sgubin Pinot Nero 2002 Venezia Giulia IGT and Castello di Arcano Refosco Non so 2009 Venezia Giulia IGT. An intriguing name of the last - Non so confirms that the wine was produced entirely without the use of sulfites. Guests were also invited to try Spinelli Terra d`Aligi Grappa di Montepulciano.

On the second day the tour of Italian vineyards continued with presentation of Manzoni Inkrochio from Antonio Rigoni, Sauvignon from Michele Grudina, Ribolla Jalla and "superfriulan" blend from Marina Sgubin, the only Italian wine from the rare southern French variety Petit Manseng - Casale del Giglio Petit Manseng 2009 Lazio IGT

The real culmination became the tasting of a top quality wine from Spinelli - Tolos winery of harvests 2006, 2004 and 2000.

At the end the participants were able to enjoy tasting of Castello di Arcano Verduzzo Friulano 2009 Venezia Giulia IGT.

"The Russian market traditionally attracts the Italian manufacturers. Lost in recent decades cultural traditions of wine consumption now are reviving here, and it is important to us. The Europe-wide tendency to consider wine as a product of peasant labor and as part of cultural traditions also appeared in Russia. Such shows as Russian Wine Fair confirms this, - said CEO of Wine & Food Made in Italy Giorgio Valentino. - As concerns our products and wines, I would like to note that some of them are very unusual and original in taste and stand among the absolutely new products not only on the Russian market. The master classes, held during the festival, showed that the Russian public received such innovations positively".
