About the conference

Improving health, education & employment outcomes

Good health, education and housing are basic human rights and contribute greatly to one’s ability to derive an income.

Unfortunately, the standard of services and opportunities for many in remote and regional areas is significantly below that within the larger centres. As a result the Federal Government is spending more than a billion dollars to improve health, community and family services in certain remote communities.

The controversial Northern Territory Intervention is also planned to continue for the next 10 years in drastic efforts to bridge the gap between Indigenous socio-economic outcomes and that of the wider community.

In acknowledging that “one of the most crucial things in improving life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is to listen to them, work with them, and include them in developing solutions to the challenges they face” (Mick Gooda, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, April 2012) this conference fleshes out how to improve services and opportunities through capacity building and partnerships.

Offering you a senior line up of both Government and non-Government leaders on a national scale, this conference will outline key developments and initiatives being rolled out at the Federal, State and Local level. In addition it will address common challenges faced by communities to improve local outcomes.
