About the conference
No matter who you are, the house you live in impacts your education, health, safety and a wide range of other socioeconomic outcomes. Yet large numbers of Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islanders face huge challenges in accessing stable, affordable and appropriate housing.
It is well documented that poor housing compounds intergenerational disadvantage. Whether in remote, regional or urban areas, it is important we seek solutions to these problems.
Now in its third year, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing conference will give you the opportunity to be part of discussions on:
- Pathways to a stronger, more financially independent community housing sector
- The progress toward a nationally consistent regulation system for the not-for-profit housing sector and what this means for housing providers and tenants
- Providing support for specific needs: From moving rough sleepers into sustainable tenancies and working with stakeholders to support tenants at risk
- Developing frameworks to enable homeownership
What past attendees had to say from the 2011 Housing conference…
Very informative. Relaxed environment. Awareness of services that I didn’t realise existed.

This conference was a great opportunity to find out what is going on around the country and in other jurisdictions.
