Oman Economic Forum, Boosting National wealth

Oman has witnessed significant achievements within a short period of time, despite current regional transformations and international economic slowdown. The diversification plan launched by the sultanate’s authorities, “vision 2020”, as well as the high-tech transshipment seaports in Salalah and Sohar, part of a long term ambitious plan to attract international petrochemical producers to the Sultanate are good examples of strong drivers of the Sultanate’s economy. A further boost to the diversification plans is the Duqm region which serves as an ambitious industrial and commercial hub; the port and drydock projects are envisioned to become a main maritime gateway, along with the airport project, ultimately providing long term investment opportunities.

Yet, alongside larger projects, and within the Sultanate’s reform plans is the steadfast development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which account for more than 95% of the volume of economic activity and contributing to 20% of the Sultanate’s GDP.

In addition, with the central bank issuing licenses of operation for Islamic banks, and which will eventually bring back the many offshore capital investments to local banks, the Sultanate’s economy is looking stable and strong.

Under the Patronage of HH Sayyid As’ad bin Tarik bin Taimur Al Said, Oman Economic forum (OEF) in its third edition, to take place, on the 22nd and 23rd of April 2012, at Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz Carlton Hotel, Muscat-Oman, will focus on all mentioned development plans and projects in the Sultanate, featuring presentations on key investment opportunities in the Duqm project and business & investment opportunities in energy and water projects.

This event is organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry & Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal Group, in cooperation with Duqm SEZA, the Central Bank of Oman & Oman Chamber of commerce and industry .OEF 2012 will bring together more than 500 high level participants including Arab and Omani investors, officials & Islamic and commercial banking leaders and heads of leading financial and economic institutions.
