About the trade show
He learned this technique and followed the advice of Cross which he appreciates the friendship. He experimented néoimpressionnisme especially in the monumental painting Luxe, calm and voluptuousness (Orsay Museum). He will find the limits of this research but this step is essential to be born the following summer in Collioure by Derain in the company, what will be called Fauvism. The exhibition presents 73 major works by HE Cross from 1891 until his death in 1910. Co-production with the Marmottan-Monet museum and research conducted by Françoise Baligand can expose paintings lent by European and American museums but also to show the farm, which belonged to morning Matisse (Museum of Nancy) next to the closes, evening (private collection). Cross is one of the leading watercolorists. The Matisse Museum will present 39 watercolors he painted Cross on the ground and watercolors painted by Matisse in Collioure to appropriate landscapes. The both of them have left to play with the light color of paper without force by a drawing. The exhibition offers a chance to discover first of the finest works of Cross (34 paintings) but which has never been demonstrated, its influence on Matisse, who in turn will open new fields in the color. Unlike Signac, he rejoices that Matisse is one of the painters who "will deepen the laws of optical mixing, not to surrender to them, but to break away. "
