Despite the impact of the global financial crisis, China's die & mould industry has maintained its growth momentum. China's die & mould revenue in 2009 amounts to RMB 98 billion. The exports of China's die & mould remain at USD 1.9 billion for the year of 2008 and 2009 in a row, and some products have approached or reached the international level. After four successive years of imports above USD 2 billion, China market in 2009 again shows strong demand with import totaling USD 1.964 billion. During the first half of 2010, China's total volume for import and export of dies and moulds totalled USD 1,993 million. Imports totalled USD 999 million, and exports totalled USD 994 million.
Driven by China's domestic demand and the cost efficiency advantage of China die & mould in international mould sourcing, China's die & mould industry is expected to grow considerably and consequently generate stronger demand for advanced processing equipment, software, systems and cutting tools.
In 2009, the mould industry in China has seen investment of up to several hundred billion RMB, used to build up fixed assets, with manufacturing and equipment testing accounting for a large proportion of the investment. In 2009, China continued to maintain the status as the world's top consumer and importer of machine tool equipment. China's total machine tool output value reached RMB 401.4 billion, and Germany, Italy and France are continuing to increase spending in China.
