Alpe–Adria Fair (26–29 January 2012) open for applications Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, Slovenia
The largest event in the field of tourism in the Alps–Adriatic region invites all tourism actors to apply. The Fair will take place between 26 and 29 January 2012 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.
In January of this year, on the basis of a 30-year tradition, the organisers successfully re-launched the Fair under a new name Alpe–Adria: Tourism and Leisure Show and the motto Just relax! Alpe–Adria is here for you. With the Alps–Adriatic region and Ljubljana as its centre, the Fair introduced a new destination origin. It also presented a new challenge for the organisers and exhibitors by introducing tourist services, tailor-made for the visitor: it presented the offer by tourist products or various types of spending leisure. Over a span of 4 days, 332 tourism service providers and 20 nautical companies from the region presented themselves. In addition to the tourist offer from the Alps–Adriatic region, the Fair also presented more remote destinations, such as the countries of former Yugoslavia, Spain and Turkey. Approximately16,000 visitors and 265 Slovenian and foreign media representativesattended the refreshed event.

Launch your trademark!
The Fair included an educational part with the Travel Zoom conference; it also provided an opportunity for two professional meetings, i.e. the Meeting of Travel Journalists and the Meeting of Tourist Guides from the Alps–Adriatic region. The Jakob prize for quality and excellence in tourism, named after the ancient tourist Jakob (Jacob), was presented for the first time. The Expert Committee of the Fair contributes to its professional credibility, i.e. the Fair being an excellent investment for new ideas and topics. Let us mention a few: the next Fair is planned to include a presentation of festival tourism, promotion of youth tourism, and the Meeting of Tourist Agencies of the Alps-Adriatic region will be added to other professional meetings organised at the Fair.
The need for regional connectivity was emphasised also by Wolfgang Platzer, PhD, the Secretary General of the Working Community of the Alps-Adriatic region, who, at the official opening of the Fair stated the following: „… I believe it is time to take a step further: a common approach for joint marketing of the entire region on interesting tourism markets across the world is required – the Working community namely stretches from Lombardy to Hungary, from Burgenland to the far south of Croatia. Slovenia and Croatia are a good example of this practice and I hope that the marketing experts from other parts of the region will join them for the benefit of all of us. We should not perceive each other only as competitors, as the offer of our common Alps–Adriatic region is truly extremely rich.“ However, the most important fact is that the Fair is supported by the Group for tourism of the Alps–Adriatic Working Community.

Theme of the Jakob 2012: Innovative tourist programmes in the field of alternative forms of leisure and relaxation.
„Tourism as an economic sector and a significant social movement is not from today, not even from yesterday, but undoubtedly from the time before yesterday, if I dare to express myself so un-historically (!). It is particularly this long-term presence among the people and for the people of the world that indicates its rich cultural heritage, experience and knowledge, which can enrich the creative tourist quests and planning even in these contemporary times. The time span aspect of tourism contributed to the introduction of a prestigious tourism award for the Alps-Adriatic countries, which is named after one of the „ancient tourists“, Jakob (Jacob), and will be yearly presented in Ljubljana as part of the Alpe-Adria Fair. In the future, the tourismJakob will highlight and particularly award the best, the most innovative and the most visible, i.e. all the best in tourism in the European area between the Alps and the Adriatic. The Jakob should thus be considered as an encouragement and motive for all those, endeavouring for the best in tourism. At the same time, it will also represent a signpost for tourists, indicating high-quality offers from various fields of tourism subjects and of the tourist way of life in general.“

Partner Region of the 2012 Fair
The Heart of Slovenia, a rounded region in the shape of heart with the geometric centre of Slovenia, GEOSS, as the central point of the area, will participate at the largest tourist Fair in Slovenia, the Alpe-Adria: Tourism and Leisure Fair 2012, as a partner region.
„The Alpe–Adria: Tourism and Leisure Show is a unique opportunity for the Heart of Slovenia to present itself as a different destination in the Slovenian area. We are building upon actual connections of different tourism and economic actors in a new, innovative and thematically rich manner.
