Messe Düsseldorf GmbH upgrades fairgrounds to meet needs: New Hall 8b enhances exhibitor services
"Growth – especially in exhibitors from abroad – has taken off to the extent that we had to expand the fairgrounds in practical terms," commented Werner M. Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Dusseldorf GmbH, to mark the official ribbon cutting for the new Hall 8b on 11 October 2007. For the benefit of the Dusseldorf-based events ranked No. 1 for their various industries, the trade fair company has added 98 by 152 metres of floor space to the fairgrounds, representing 12,850 square metres of new exhibition space. Consequently the total exhibition area now extends over 306,888 square metres.
The net exhibition space rented by international exhibitors participating in proprietary events has risen overall by almost 50 percent in the last five years. Looking only at the last three stagings of these flagship fairs, drupa recorded a rise of 27 percent in net exhibition space booked by international exhibitors, i.e. almost a third, while for K the increase was 30 percent and for interpack 35 percent.
From October 2007 to September 2008, the new Hall 8b will see nine fairs run their course and be in use for up to 183 days – that's every second day including Christmas, New Year and Easter. The "big four" (drupa, interpack, MEDICA / COMPAMED and K) in the Messe Dusseldorf portfolio, which fill the fairgrounds to capacity, will alone lay claim to Hall 8b for 109 days.
At the same time, Hall 8b in tandem with the already existing Hall 8a will provide a highly flexible venue for smaller and mid-sized events. A space uninterrupted by supporting pillars and with a maximum height of 20 metres is suitable not only for trade fairs but also sports or corporate events, such as annual general meetings. Three seminar areas ranging between 76 and 220 square metres in size.
The investment volume for Hall 8b is EUR 51 million, which Messe Dьsseldorf GmbH financed using its own resources. With the support of its committees and as part of its master plan, Messe Dьsseldorf will carry out further maintenance work, renovations and upgrades to the fairgrounds at its home base in the coming years.
